For years Transformers has been a popular franchise with a faithful fan base. The Transformers even made it to the big screen with two movies based off the popular 1980’s cartoon and toys. But even though the Transformers have been around for 25 years there hasn’t been a game that has lived up to expectations, until now. Finally there is a Transformers game that is not only fun to play but is also a part of the Transformers series and that game is Transformers War For Cybertron.

Transformers War For Cybertron is set long before the Transformers arrive on Earth. This game is set on Cybertron telling the story of the civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons. The game fills in a lot of plot holes in the Transformers story such as how Optimus became Optimus Prime, Starscream defecting to the Decepticons and even how Bumblebee and Optimus became friends. The story has two campaigns one campaign for the Autobots and one for the Decepticons. In the Autobot campaign you play as Optimus (before he became Prime) and in the Decepticon campaign you play as Megatron.

While playing both campaigns players will immediately notice the differences in appearance the characters look for the original show, that is because the developer High Moon Studios created these character models just for this game depicting how each character would look like on Cybertron. There are no more Earth vehicles to transform into instead the Transformers transform into futuristic vehicles that reflect the world of Cybertron.

The gameplay in War For Cybertron is solid it plays just like a standard third person shooter with the exception of being able to transform into a vehicle anytime the player wants. The graphics are nice in this game but they could be better, the only problem I have with the game in terms of performance is minor framerate issues in certain parts of the game. The sound is average at best the voice acting is not some of the best in videogames but it is good enough for this type of game.

Where Transformers War for Cybertron is the most fun is the multiplayer modes. There are many types of modes including Escalation, Capture the Flag, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Conquest. Most of these modes are standard in most games that support online multiplayer some of the modes are labeled differently such as Escalation mode which is similar to Nazi Zombies in Call of Duty World at War in which the objective is to defeat waves of enemies until the player is defeated. But the best feature that the multiplayer offers is the customization of your own Transformer character, players will be able to choose the color, parts, weapons and side affiliation for your created Transformer.

Overall War For Cybertron is what fans of the series have been waiting for a Transformers game that is not only a great game to play but is also a canon story in the Transformers universe. But this game is not only enjoyable to the fans of the series it is even fun for someone who doesn’t know anything about the Transformers story, it is a fun game that can be enjoyed by all.

I had the opportunity to attend some of the action going on up at MLG Columbus last weekend. Columbus would be my 2nd pro event and 3rd overall MLG event that I have attended.

Upon my arrival I met a few of my friends and allies from various other communities: OcR ROWEBLAST, OcR Patriot, Luv Gunn from H3WM, The Great Orny and many others.

After standing around and chatting for a bit I decided to dive into the event to see what it offered. It was a big step up from when I attended Meadowlands in 09 and even more so than the Combine in Chicago this year. There was free stuff everywhere not to mention all the Dr. Pepper you could drink! I spectated a few pro games on the mini mane stages and poked around the main stage for a bit although I didn’t want to go through the hassle of trying to get up on the main stage with the lines. I had a pretty good spot to the side where there weren’t many people.

I decided to enter myself into the FFA seeing as it was included with admission. The game was very close with 1st to last place only at a difference of a few kills and I ended up in 5th…close but no cigar?

After the FFA I caught up with Linds Panther the MLG photographer and talked to him for a while about photography and all the stuff I’ve done over the years. After our conversation I asked him if they were ever hiring people to come help shoot events. He said I seemed pretty cool and had alot of experience so he gave me his personal email to send him some of my work and talk about possibly coming on board to help with photography. So cross your fingers! If he likes my work I might be working for MLG!

After we finished talking I walked around to get more pictures of the event and went on my way. Overall it was quite the successful day. Thanks to everyone I talked to for making the day awesome. I will be at future events for sure!
